While the holidays may be filled with joy and cheer, the times around those are usually filled with stress. From shopping in the crowds to diet-busting holiday parties, the holidays can make most of us want to pull our hair out. But rest assured it is not the end of the world. Here are a few tips to help you manage and fight holiday stress.

Get Some Sun

Thanks to daylight savings time, we get far less sun throughout the day and that is if we get any at all. Many of us get to work when the sun is still rising and leave work after the sun has set. Make an effort to get some sun during the winter because it stimulates the production of serotonin–a feel good chemical! If you don’t get a chance to get outside, try an indoor sun lamp, it works wonders.

Exercise

It is difficult to find the motivation to workout during winter, but you have to push yourself to do it. Exercising releases dopamine, another chemical that is responsible for stimulating your happiness.

Stick With Your Daily Routine

Your brain loves its routine, however tedious it may be. Prioritize your workouts, reading, and other hobbies and don’t try to squeeze in more than you can handle. This is the reason so many feel the stresses of the holidays: they are not used to the workload and then fall victim to stress.
